A - Z Projects

Orion Heritage has been working with a consortium comprising Hallam Land Management, Taylor Wimpey & Hannick Homes, promoting a proposed 2,200 residential scheme that forms part of the Eastern Swindon Villages expansion. The site contains significant amounts of prehistoric and Roman archaeological remain and also contains, and is adjacent to, a number of listed buildings that have setting issues. The whole site was subject to a geophysical survey that was implemented in various phases of work. This was followed by a number of phases of evaluation trenching using a low sample size. The implementation of the trenching programme had to be tightly organised and managed due to constraints caused by commercial turf crops. Orion Heritage provided the historic environment input into the original ES chapter and a subsequent new and substantially revised version of the ES. Orion devised and agreed with the LPA an outline archaeological mitigation strategy which is designed to guide the extensive mitigation works required ahead of construction. This was secured by an archaeologial condition on the outline planning permission.
