A - Z Projects

Following the submission of an outline planning application for a 2,500 dwelling scheme, Orion Heritage were appointed to manage the archaeological evaluation of the proposed development site. This involved negotiations with the LPA's archaeological advisors to reduce the sample size required from 5%, which would have been an enormous undertaking, to 2.5%. Having designed the tender documents, Orion Heritage appointed a suitable contractor and managed the evaluation fieldwork and post-excavation report. The trenching revealed an area of Roman settlement and a number of other areas of Iron Age and medieval remains within the site. Following completion this work, Orion Heritage provided an archaeology addendum ES chapter. Suffolk County Council agreed that all further archaeological work could be undertaken as a condition of outline planning consent.

One of Orion Heritage's Directors had also undertaken the heritage aspects for the planning application while in previous employment.
