A - Z Projects

Outline planning permission was recently granted for the construction of up to 250 dwellings on land at Tuffley Farm, Grange Road, Gloucester. Orion Heritage provided heritage planning advice throughout the promotion and planning application process for the proposed development.

Orion Heritage undertook a heritage desk-based assessment of the site at an early stage of the promotion of the site. This concluded that the site had some potential for prehistoric and Roman remains of local significance. A subsequent geophysical survey  revealed the remains of a prehistoric settlement within part of the site.

The scheme layout was adapted to ensure that the majority of these remains were preserved within open space. Following submission of the planning application, archaeological evaluation trenching was undertaken which confirmed the results of the geophysical survey. A detailed assessment of an historic cattle shed within the site was also undertaken. Planning permission was granted with conditions requiring some limited archaeological mitigation and the full recording of the historic cattle shed ahead of demolition.
