A - Z Projects

Orion Heritage advised Hallam Land Management on the promotion of a planning application for a residential scheme on the outskirts of Buckingham. The site lies adjacent to the scheduled well of St Rumbold, a number of listed buildings and a conservation area.

Due to the archaeological potential, a geophysical survey was undertaken which indicated limited remains in most of the site, but an area of the site appeared to contain remains of archaeological interest. To better define this potential, Orion Heritage procured and managed an archaeological evaluation which revealed an area of Roman remains of potentially regional significance. Following negotiations with the LPA's archaeological advisor, the residential scheme was altered to ensure these Roman remains, which are also in the setting of the scheduled monument, were preserved in situ. Orion Heritage also compiled the heritage chapter of the ES.

Orion Heritage negotiated and agreed the scope of the necessary archaeological mitigation excavations with Buckinghamshire County Council, which were secured by condition to the outline planning consent.
